'Malawi Girl' by Michelle Buhl-Nielsen Ref No 238
|
|
Born in Hampshire, England, Michelle made Denmark her base 17 years ago. She has lived in Zimbabwe
and South Africa during that time, travelling throughout the African continent. "I work in acrylic, painting onto
thick blocks of board that I feel add an interesting dimension and depth to my work. I often take the images to
the very edge of the board, cropping them to create an intensity of focus. The bright African light is central to my
work, and I seek to evoke a sense of time and place through a simple use of colour and form- a warm sensual breeze, a damp
beach at dusk, the growing heat of a rising sun. The sharpness of light in the morning and the subdued light of evening
darken human forms turning them into silhouettes against a vibrant background of colour."
